Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI)
From the "CHAIR"
Have you ever thought about how many friends and acquaintances you have outside of your immediate family and church family? If you have been a Christian over five years most of your relationships are probably with church people. That's ok and it is scripturally correct since we that are followers of Christ are known as His children and we are brothers and sisters. We are family!
The negative side of being active in the church family is that we have the potential of becoming a closed fellowship.
The obvious result is that we will not win or influence unreached people to Jesus Christ. This obviously hurts building the kingdom of God.
Our General SDMI director, Dr. Woodie Stevens, says, "Sunday School, small groups, adult Bible fellowship, and discipleship ministries are essential tools for today's church. But if they serve only as closed fellowship groups or Bible study groups, then they are neglecting one of their potentially strongest assets. What if most of our classes have grown so inwardly focused they make no intentional efforts to reach the unreached? "Intentionally developing a relationship with those who do not follow Christ is where fruitfulness begins. I encourage you to intentionally find someone who does not know Christ and begin building a relationship with them so that you can help them come to faith in Jesus. Help your Sunday School and discipleship ministries develop a passion for reaching the unchurched for Jesus. It is our mission."
