Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI)
From the "CHAIR"
The following excerpt is from Dr. Woodie Stevens, General SDMI Director. Has anyone mentioned to you lately the vital role Sunday School, small groups, Bible fellowships, and discipleship ministries play in the health of your local church? High profile church-growth innovations seem to come and go, but Sunday School and discipleship ministries continue to be the primary tools for helping people
follow Jesus more closely. For the local church to effectively make disciples, three foundational principles must be in place:
1. The pastor must be the chief advocate and cheerleader for Sunday School and discipleship ministries. If the pastor neglects the key discipling tools within the church, stagnation is not far
behind.
2. Accountability for what actually happens through Sunday School and discipleship ministries is essential. Dont be afraid to ask, Who did you pray for, work with, disciple this week?
3. Intentionally reaching out evangelistically keeps every Sunday School and discipleship ministry from becoming self-centered and ingrown. Thom Rainer, in studying over 4,000 churches across America, discovered that the Sunday School was the third highest-rated effective evangelistic methodology.
Finally, work your Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries and your Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries will work.
